What are some of the solutions to Snoring and Sleep Apnea that you provide?

Our sleep apnea and snoring solutions usually start off with a FDA approved at home sleep study, that you take home with you after your first visit.  From there, our specialists will look at the results from the sleep study – and see which solution is right for your situation.  Since we are familiar with all of the most popular FDA approved oral appliances our specialists will help choose the most effective and comfortable version of oral appliance for your individual needs.  If possible, we try to find an alternative for you outside of the CPAP machine.  Obviously, only through a 1 on 1 visit with the specialists will they be able to find the right diagnosis.

What are some of the conditions that the Sleep Medicine Group can treat?

We treat all spectrums of sleep disorders, including: common snoring (mild, moderate, and severe), sleep apnea, chronic Insomnia, Shift-Work Sleep Disorder, Jet Lag, Narcolepsy and Parasomnias.  If it’s a medical issue (and yes, snoring is a medical issue) that prohibits sleep – chances are pretty good our specialists can help.

How much does it cost? Will my insurance cover my visit and my appliance?

Insurance coverages vary, even with patients who have the same insurance company – and whether or not you’ve reached your maximum out of pocket deductible for the year.  These questions can be answered during your initial consultation with one of our patient care coordinators.  We will work on pre-authorization with your insurance company prior to your first visit.

Will this be covered by my dental or medical insurance?
In virtually all cases (there are some rare exceptions) your visit, at home sleep study, and solution will be covered by your medical insurance (and not dental insurance).  To know for sure, please contact us, and let’s get the pre-authorization started.
Do I need a doctor’s referral prior to coming to Sleep Medicine Group?
No, a referral is not necessary in a majority of cases.  However, Veteran’s Affair Insurance DOES require one.
What does a “at-home” sleep study look like?

After having an initial consultation with one of our specialists, you will be sent home with a home sleep study unit that is FDA-approved diagnostic devices for the detection of sleep apnea. Ares/WatchPAT tests are done in the comfort of your own home.  No technician is needed to be present (or creepily watch or study you while you sleep)  Ares/WatchPAT studies have been validated against in-lab polysomnography.

I don’t want to use a CPAP machine. What are my options?

Remember, first you need to meet with one of the specialists.  In a MAJORITY of cases, our specialists are able to prescribe you with either a Sleep APP oral appliance or a Somno Med Oral Appliance.  In both cases, these devises will be custom fit to your mouth, and you simply pop it in when you go to sleep at night.

We are also experts in EMA, Somnodent, SleepApp, TAP, and all of the major sleep devices.

The Sleep Medicine Group now offers the most advanced and newest FDA approved oral appliance in the industry, the SLEEPAPP ADV.  It offers a potential connector to be used both stand alone as an oral appliance and as a strap-free connector for patients with severe OSA that hate the straps on the average bulky CPAP mask.

Sleep Medicine Group is one of the longest-standing and most experienced practices in dental appliances in the country. We are one of the original interdisciplinary Sleep Practices in the country.  We have helped develop this exciting treatment option for patients to have access to one of the most preferred OSA treatments available.

NOTE:  These are much different, and much more advanced than the over the counter solutions you find for sale on the internet or at pharmacies.  More times than not, you get what you pay for, wishing that you would have started with us to begin with (we’ve heard that many times).

Do the Radio Personalities actually use Sleep Medicine Group for their Snoring or Sleep Apnea?
You betcha!  Isaac Ropp and Jason ‘Big Suke’ Scukanec from 1080 The FAN have been patients of ours for 8 years.  You might have even heard the commercial about how we were even able to help Jason’s daughter with her severe pediatric case of Sleep Apnea.  Greg Glover from 94/7 Alternative Portland, Iris Harrison from 92.3 KGON, and Tim Taylor from 99.5 The Wolf are patients as well as some of their spouses.
